Mobile Van Tyre Fitting & LCV Tyres - Fleet, Trade & Individual
Load-rated tyres for the working van โ Transit, Sprinter, Crafter, Vivaro, Trafic, Berlingo, Partner and the rest. I'm Simon, owner-operator at Breakdown Man, based in WN5 Wigan. Fleet-friendly, out-of-hours, no call-out fee. Quote on the phone, payment in advance. 07549 676 220.
Why Van Tyres Aren't the Same as Car Tyres
A van fully loaded with tools, parts and stock is a different vehicle to an empty one โ and the tyres need to hold up to that swing in load every working day. That's why van tyres are built with stiffer sidewalls and higher load ratings than the equivalent car size. The sidewall stamp will usually carry a C (Commercial) or CP marking and a load index higher than a passenger car. Fit a downrated car tyre and the van fails its MOT, the insurance is voided if it contributes to a crash, and the sidewall flexes excessively under load โ which generates heat and ends in a roadside blowout.
Trades vans run hard. A roofer's Transit covering Bolton, Wigan and Manchester sites might cover 35,000 miles a year carrying a tonne of materials on every run. That's why the right tyre tier matters more on a van than a car โ the cheapest budget rubber doesn't last on a working van, and it's a false economy to keep replacing them.
What's Fitted, Where
The common UK fleet vans and light commercials โ supplied and fitted at the depot, the job site, the customer's driveway or the verge:
- Ford โ Transit, Transit Custom, Transit Connect, Ranger (LCV spec)
- Mercedes-Benz โ Sprinter, Vito, Citan
- Volkswagen โ Crafter, Transporter, Caddy
- Vauxhall / Opel โ Vivaro, Combo, Movano
- Renault โ Master, Trafic, Kangoo
- Peugeot / Citroen โ Boxer/Relay, Expert/Dispatch, Partner/Berlingo
- Fiat โ Ducato, Doblo, Talento, Scudo
- Iveco โ Daily (incl. dually variants)
- Toyota / Nissan / Isuzu โ Proace, NV200/NV300/NV400, D-Max (LCV use)
Plus the related work: puncture repair where the casing is still good, locking wheel nut extraction, TPMS sensor swap and reset, and dynamic balancing โ all included in the fit, never a separate line.
What's Outside Scope
Light commercials and panel vans up to 3.5 tonnes โ yes. Heavier than that and you're into HGV territory, which is a different trade with different machinery.
- Panel vans (SWB / MWB / LWB)
- High-roof, jumbo and Luton bodies
- Chassis cabs and tippers (up to 3.5t)
- Twin-rear-wheel light commercials (Iveco Daily, Sprinter 5T, Transit chassis-cab)
- Crew vans and double-cab pickups
- HGV / lorry tyres (over 3.5t GVW)
- Agricultural / tractor tyres
- Motorbike tyres (incl. delivery scooters)
If you're running an HGV fleet, you need a commercial fleet tyre specialist โ different machinery, different ATS-style network. Always better to hear that on the call than waiting on a van that can't do the job.
Brand Tiers for Vans
Van mileage is high, loads are heavy, downtime costs money โ so the tier decision is different from a private car. Mid-range tends to be the sweet spot for working vans; premium-tier C-rated rubber pays back if you're doing serious mileage on motorway runs. Budget is a workable short-term fix if cashflow's tight, but ends up costing more over a year on a hard-worked Transit.
Long-life, quiet, best wet grip โ the brands the carmakers fit from the factory.

FAQs โ Van & Light Commercial Tyres
What's the difference between car and van tyres?
Van tyres carry a heavier load and run at higher pressures. They're built with stiffer sidewalls and a reinforced construction โ usually marked C (Commercial), CP (Camping/motorhome โ also used on some panel vans) or with a load index higher than the equivalent car tyre. Fitting a car tyre to a working van is illegal if the load index is below the manufacturer's spec, and it'll fail an MOT.
Can you fit Transit, Sprinter, Crafter and Vivaro tyres?
Yes โ all the common UK fleet vans: Ford Transit and Transit Custom, Mercedes Sprinter and Vito, VW Crafter and Transporter, Vauxhall Vivaro and Combo, Peugeot Boxer and Partner, Citroen Relay and Berlingo, Renault Master and Trafic, Fiat Ducato and Doblo, Iveco Daily.
Do you do fleet accounts or business invoicing?
Trade and fleet vans are welcome, but there's no credit account or invoicing on terms โ payment is taken in advance, before each fit, by bank transfer or card, single van or whole fleet. No formal scheme and no minimum-spend lock-in.
Can you come out of hours so my van isn't off the road?
Yes โ that's the whole point. Evening, overnight and weekend fitting means the van is back on the road for Monday morning's first job. Out-of-hours doesn't carry a separate fee structure.
What about a blowout on the M6 or M62 with the van loaded?
If you're stopped on a live lane or hard shoulder, ring 999 / National Highways first โ your safety comes before the tyre. Once you're in a place of safety, Simon can come to fit the replacement. Simon can't legally work on a live motorway lane.
Will you do LWB and high-roof vans?
Yes. Long-wheelbase and high-roof variants make no difference to the tyre work โ the wheel and tyre are the same as the SWB.
Can you fit twin-axle / dual-rear-wheel vans?
Yes โ Transit chassis cab, Sprinter 519, Iveco Daily dually and similar twin-rear-wheel vans are fitted regularly.
What about caravan, motorhome, 4x4 or EV-van tyres?
Caravans and motorhomes have their own page (CP-rated rubber, kerbside-vs-storage-compound considerations). 4x4s and SUVs have their own page. Electric vans are covered on the EV/hybrid tyres page.
