Why Car Tyres Are Worth Doing Properly
Of the four contact patches between a tonne and a half of metal and the road, none is bigger than a postcard. That's the whole interface for braking, steering and cornering. Worn-out tyres or a cheap fitment with a poor balance is felt on the steering wheel, in the stopping distance, and in tyre noise that drones on the motorway. Done properly — right tyre tier for the car, correct pressures, properly seated bead, dynamic balance, torque to manufacturer spec, TPMS reset — and a new set should run quiet, true and predictable for 20,000 to 40,000 miles depending on driving style.
Cars are the everyday job for a mobile tyre fitter. Most weeks the van is on driveways across Bolton, Wigan and the surrounding boroughs doing exactly this — a worn front pair on a Focus, a slow-puncture replacement on a school-run Qashqai, a set of four on a company A4. The kit on the van is workshop-grade: a proper tyre changer with a low-profile and run-flat bead breaker, a dynamic cone balancer, a torque wrench (never an impact gun to final torque) and the universal TPMS programmer.
What's Fitted and Repaired
- Standard car tyres — every common size from 14-inch city cars up to 21-inch performance fitments. The van carries common 16/17/18-inch sizes for same-day work; rarer sizes come in on a booked slot.
- Run-flat tyres — BMW, MINI and many Mercedes models. The machine on the van handles the stiffer sidewall mounting without damaging the bead.
- Low-profile and UHP — 19-inch, 20-inch, 21-inch aggressive-profile fitments handled with the right tooling to avoid stretch damage.
- Winter and all-season swaps — seasonal changeovers, including storage advice. Most of our weather doesn't need true winter rubber, but all-season tyres earn their keep above 1,500 feet (Rivington, Saddleworth, Peak fringe).

- Locking wheel nut removal — even without the key, in most cases.

FAQs — Car Tyres
Do you fit all car tyre sizes?
Yes — passenger car sizes from small city-car 14-inch up through 21-inch performance fitments. Common stock sizes (15, 16, 17, 18-inch) tend to be on the van for next-day or same-day jobs; rarer sizes are sourced from the supplier and fitted on a booked slot. Tell Simon what's on the sidewall (something like 205/55 R16 91V) and he'll confirm.
Can you fit run-flat tyres?
Yes. Run-flats are standard on many BMW, MINI and some Mercedes models — they need a tyre machine with the right bead-loosening kit, which Simon carries. Fitting a run-flat where the car was originally specced for run-flats is fine; swapping to standard tyres is technically possible but means the car loses its run-flat capability.
Will you fit performance or low-profile tyres?
Yes — UHP and low-profile sizes are fitted regularly. They need careful bead-mounting to avoid stretch damage, which the workshop-grade machine on the van handles fine. If the car's running 19s or 20s with aggressive profile, mention it on the call.
What about TPMS sensors on my car?
Most cars from 2014 onwards have TPMS as standard. Simon carries common service-kit valves and re-grommets, plus universal programmable sensors. The warning light is reset on the diagnostic before he leaves.
Can you supply premium brands like Michelin or Continental?
Yes — Simon can supply Michelin, Continental, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Dunlop, Hankook, Yokohama and Toyo at premium tier, plus mid-range and budget brands depending on the car and budget.
Do you balance car wheels?
Yes — every new tyre is dynamically balanced on the cone before it goes back on the car. Steering-wheel wobble is most often a balance problem, and balance is part of the fit price.
Will you fit tyres I've ordered online?
Yes — fit-only is fine. Common online sources (Black Circles, Camskill, OTR, Amazon-fulfilled brands) all work. Same workmanship as supply-and-fit.
