What "Budget" Actually Means
Budget-tier tyres are the lowest-cost rubber that's road-legal and DOT-stamped — typically manufactured in China, Turkey or other lower-cost factories, and engineered to meet the minimum EU labelling thresholds for wet-grip, rolling resistance and noise. They suit short-term needs: a car heading to MOT-and-sell, a low-mileage second runabout, a tight household budget on a slow puncture that needs sorting today. They are not the right answer on a long-mileage commuter or a heavy SUV — the tread-life and wet performance gap to premium and mid-range is real, and the saving disappears when the budget set wears out at 12,000 miles instead of 25,000.

- Chinese manufacturer with a broad size catalogue across cars, vans and 4x4s. A workable choice when the budget rules the day and the mileage is light.
- Linglong
- One of the larger Chinese tyre manufacturers globally, including some OE work in Asian markets. Sits in the UK as a budget-tier supply brand across cars and light commercials.
When Budget Is — and Isn't — the Right Call
Budget tyres suit drivers with short-term, lower-mileage or tight-budget situations: a car you're selling within the year, a runabout doing the school run and the supermarket, a slow puncture on a vehicle you don't want to invest in. They're not the right call on a long-mileage commuter, a heavy SUV, an EV with the kerb-weight load, a performance car, or a vehicle that spends real time on motorways in winter wet.
